Position Summary:

As an Assistant Transportation Manager, you will support all functions of the Transportation Department. You will manage drivers, routes, deliveries, maintenance, security and safety, and other transportation related functions to create direct contributions to the division and to customer experiences. A successful candidate will have effectively demonstrated an ability to continuously build better service, demonstrate leadership, and instill a culture of innovation.

Position Responsibilities :
  • Leading the team of drivers and support staff within the Transportation Team.
  • Ensuring drivers meet required operating skills, training, testing, and DOT reporting.
  • Managing transportation operation to ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and Core-Mark regulations; including, but not limited to, DOT, OSHA, and food safety standards.
  • Creating initiatives to support driver recruitment and training.
  • Collaborating with other teams to align delivery expectations with customer needs and strategy.
  • Managing transportation related operations and cost, in line with the annual budget.
  • Discovering opportunities to improve delivery routing, improve the delivery experience for customers, lower delivery costs, and on-route support for our drivers.
  • Collaborating with Transportation Leadership Team on strategic department functions.
  • Assisting in the overall selection, hiring, and management of department personnel.
  • Ensuring an environment of safety and security across the department.
  • Reviewing orders, schedules, and demand forecasts to maintain appropriate staffing levels.
  • Managing the payroll functions and overseeing all SCM/Hourly pay is correct.
  • Managing all key metrics OT1/POD/APUS/OTD.
Skills & Experiences:
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) with 2 years of higher education.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of transportation supervisory/management experience.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of demonstrated experience in budget creation and management.
  • Possessing a Class A CDL preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft office applications.
  • Ability to manage routing and distribution, and logistic computer software.
  • Ability to analyze, critically evaluate situations, and communicate effectively.
Physical Demands &Working Conditions:
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, and walk frequently for sustained periods of time.
  • Physical ability to occasionally bend, kneel, crouch, climb, or crawl.
  • Exposure to a variety of environmental conditions: weather, temperature, lighting, and noise as determined by circumstances at accounts within assigned territory.
