Job Description


A Engineer spends most of the day on a variety of interesting activities, including walking the facility and inspecting infrastructure systems, performing routine maintenance, assessing needs, monitoring construction projects, and completing repairs as needed. This individual will also help to gather information and take readings to fill in the parameters on daily spreadsheets. A Engineer must have a understanding of HVAC, electrical, large chillers, diesel generators, cooling towers, UPS systems, large batteries, and more.

  • This is a technical job and it is heavy on the electrical side, but there are a number of diverse pieces to doing the job well. To excel in this role you will need an understanding of HVAC, electrical, large chillers, diesel generators, cooling towers, UPS systems, large batteries, and more. You may be in front of customers, so you'll also need to be able to present yourself well and have great communication skills. You will complete certain reports, so you'll need enough knowledge of computers in order to create and update reports in Word and Excel. To complete the reports you will also need the ability to gather information. This hands-on role will take much more than just experience with rounds and readings.

Minimum Requirements

  • Data center experience is strongly preferred.
  • A trade license or certification acquired through technical education/training.
  • A facilities maintenance certification.
  • Experience working with mission critical data equipment, and the willingness to work in a fast-paced, mission critical environment.
  • Strong HVAC, mechanical, and electrical skill and experience.
  • An understanding of computer systems, and skill with Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to follow instructions and processes precisely and carefully.
  • The willingness to work 2 nd or 3 rd shift, at least one weekend day each week, and unscheduled overtime as needed to complete projects or break-fixes.
  • The ability to walk around a good deal of the time to perform inspections, to do some work outdoors in the weather if needed, and to lift heavy objects.

Physical Requirements
  • Lift and handle up to 50 pounds
  • Bend, stoop, and stretch as required for placement and retrieval of network devices, materials, or equipment
  • Work under a raised data center floor
  • Climb ladders (up to a 16 feet) to reach plenum spaces
